Hurricane Rowing Places Fifth at the ACC Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Miami rowing team finished fourth in three of four events Saturday morning for a fifth-place finish at the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship on Lake Hartwell. Virginia claimed its ninth consecutive ACC Rowing Championship, winning three of the four races, while Clemson came away victorious in one race – the Novice Eight – while placing second in the other three.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Miami finished with 24 points for the fifth-place finish. UVa earned 58 points for the championship, while Clemson, Duke and North Carolina placed second through fourth. BostonCollege finished in sixth place with 12 points.

 

UM’s 1st Varsity Eight crew of coxswain Shira Kharrazi, stroke Louise Parry, Laura Cordner, Kelly Amsler, Emily Wingrove, Sarah Medland, Bethany Krawec, Monika Sajincic and bow Tara Eddings came in fourth at 6:46.3, just six seconds behind third-place Duke.

 

UM’s 1st Varsity Four and Novice Eight crews also turned in fourth-place finishes. The Varsity Four crew of coxswain Erin Coldsmith, Whitney Gahagen and Allison Hodgkins came in at 7:36.1.

 

UM’s 2nd Varsity Eight crew of coxswain Christina Crocco, stroke Nicola Saner, Stacey Kerr, Marleena Eyre, Rachael Sporko, Caitlin Augustin, Hannah McKay, Olivia Arkell and bow Stephanie Parrish with a time of 7:03.7.

 

“We were a little flat today,” head coach Robbie Tenenbaum said. “We are going to get back out there and work hard this week to get ready for our race next Saturday.”

 

The Hurricanes will return to its non-conference schedule when they travel to Jacksonville to race against JacksonvilleUniversity, Saturday, April 26.

 

“Our entire team is glad that we will be able to get back out there and race again next week,” Tenenbaum added.”
