Alex Bloom joined the University of Miami Track & Field staff in September 2024 and is entering his third year as an assistant coach specializing in vertical jumps and combined events.
In the 2026 season, three more Hurricanes earned All-American honors under Bloom’s guidance. Edgar Campre was crowned ACC Champion and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the heptathlon, while Kennedy Sauder broke the school record in the indoor high jump with a leap of 2.22 meters and earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Magdaline Campo jumped a personal best of 1.83 meters, tying her for second on Miami’s top-five list, and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where she finished as an Honorable Mention All-American. Campre added to his big season by winning the ACC Outdoor Championship and scoring 7,870 points to earn First Team All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
It was a strong follow-up to Bloom’s first season at Miami, when two Hurricanes achieved All-American honors. Campre finished third at the NCAA Indoor Championships and set a school record in the men’s heptathlon with a score of 5,934. Sauder earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump. Senior high jumper Aaron Kim was crowned champion with a personal best of 2.18 meters at the ACC Outdoor Championships. Helga Sigurjonsdottir also cracked Miami’s top-five list, clearing a personal best of 1.83 meters in the women’s high jump.
Before joining Miami, Bloom was part of the Kent State University staff, specializing in horizontal jumps and combined events. In his three years there, he coached 11 MAC individual champions, 24 MAC top-three finishers, and five MAC Freshman of the Year winners, along with two MAC Most Outstanding Athlete award winners. His athletes produced 25 Kent State top-10 all-time list marks, 10 NCAA First Round East Regional qualifiers, and a USATF U-20 top-three finish in the heptathlon. He was named the MAC Men’s Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022, and during his tenure the Golden Flashes won three MAC Team Championships between indoors and outdoors.
Bloom is a 2018 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and fitness. He continued his education at Xavier University, earning a master’s degree in coaching education and athlete development in 2020. Bloom also holds a USATF Level 1 coaching certification along with two certifications through ALTIS Education, specializing in horizontal jumps and short sprints. As a student-athlete at Cincinnati, Bloom was a Second Team All-American in the heptathlon during the 2018 indoor season and held school records in both the heptathlon and indoor high jump. He also won two American Athletic Conference titles in the decathlon and one in the high jump.
