Born Ja’Quan Naasir Newton on Aug. 23, 1995 in Philadelphia … Son of the late Lisa Brown, and Joe Newton, the 1998 NABC Division II national player of the year out of the University of Central Oklahoma … Brother to Cary Rudd and Miing Newton … Mother passed away March 2014 after three-year battle with breast cancer, one day prior to state championship game in which Newton scored 33 points … Majoring in sociology … Started playing basketball at age six and first dunk was in eighth grade in an AAU game.
