Miami Athletics Announces Winners of Inaugural Canes Pride Competition

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — University of Miami Athletics announced Thursday the winners of the inaugural Canes Pride Competition, which was managed through the CanesUnited student rewards app.

The competition was launched this school year to foster friendly, spirited competition among the student body by encouraging student organizations to attend Miami Hurricanes sporting events. Each time UM students attended a Canes sporting event or related spirit events they had the opportunity to earn points toward exclusive prizes, unforgettable fan experiences, and special offers from Miami Athletics partners.

A total of $42,500 in cash prizes will be distributed to the 10 organizations that attended the most events. Below is the final leaderboard:

  • 1: Category 5 – $10,000
  • 2: Pi Tau Sigma – $7,500
  • 3: Homecoming Executive Committee – $5,000
  • 4: IBIS Yearbook – $5,000
  • 5: Delta Sigma Pi – $5,000
  • 6: Kappa Sigma – $2,000
  • 7: Lambda Chi Alpha – $2,000
  • 8: Catholic Campus Ministry – $2,000
  • 9: UM Hillel – $2,000
  • 10: Student Government – $2,000

“I want to thank all the student organizations who participated in the inaugural Canes Pride Competition,” Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “Our student-athletes could feel the energy of their classmates at all our home games this year.

“Congratulations to Category 5 for finishing atop the leaderboard and we look forward to even more students joining next year’s competition.”
