Canes Swimming & Diving Battles Notre Dame on Senior Day
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami’s women’s swimming and diving team fell to Notre Dame 162.5-137.5 Saturday at Whitten Pool, while the Canes’ men’s diving team defeated the Fighting Irish 32-6.
It was Senior Day for the Canes as four swimmers (Evelyn Meggesto, Sarah Sensenbrenner, Kate Sommerstad, Hana Spaulding) and one diver (Mohamed Farouk) were recognized before the meet.
Ashlyn Massey swept the 100 and 200-yard butterfly for the Canes, while Sensenbrenner (200-yard backstroke), Sophie Lenze (1,000-yard freestyle) and Leah Treglia (100-yard backstroke) also took first place in their respective races. Miami’s 200-yard medley relay team won in a time of 1:41.74.
In diving, Margo O’Meara swept the one and three-meter events. On the men’s side, Farouk captured first place in the one-meter and Jake Passmore won the 3-meter. North Carolina’s men’s and women’s diving teams also competed in the meet.
Miami returns to competition next Saturday, January 10 in a tri-meet against Harvard and host FIU.
