Hurricanes Shutout NC State
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 13 ranked University of Miami volleyball team (25-5, 15-4 ACC) swept the NC State Wolfpack (15-14, 8-11 ACC), 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes tallied 34 kills, 13 blocks, 11 aces and 39 digs. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led with 16 kills and six aces, while sophomore Logan Wiley notched eight blocks and three kills.
Miami got off on a 14-3 lead with two kills from Wiley, two aces from Rodriguez and two aces from Heredia Colon. Jazmin Vergara added onto a 5-0 run with her second kill, while Wilson and Danilovic added their own swings for the 21-8 lead. With five kills and four aces, along with a .364 hitting percentage, the Hurricanes took set one, 25-11.
The Wolfpack started on a 8-4 lead, but the Hurricanes climbed back to earn the 15-12 lead as Heredia Colon notched her 10th kill and third ace. Wiley then added a strong kill for the 16-13 lead, followed by a block from Rodriguez for the 20-16 advantage. Miami picked up 15 digs in the second set for the 25-21 set win.
The Hurricanes opened with a 10-0 start with two blocks and two kills from Wilson and didn’t take their foot off the pedal. Heredia Colon then added on three aces to extend the lead to 21-3, before back-to-back kills from Wilson and Danilovic sealed the 25-5 set.
Miami will travel to North Carolina on Saturday for the final regular season match.
