Miami Sweeps No. 15 UNC

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 14 ranked University of Miami volleyball team (24-5, 14-4 ACC) shutout the No. 15 UNC Tarheels (20-7, 13-5 ACC), 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes tallied 41 kills, 10 blocks and seven aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 23 kills on a .340 clip, while redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez notched 30 assists with four kills and seven digs.

Rodriguez got things started with two early aces for the 6-1 start for Miami. The Hurricanes then went on a 5-0 with two blocks from Dalia Wilson for the 15-4 lead. The team picked up five aces along with a .400 hitting percentage, on top of Danilovic and Vergara earning kills, for the 25-11 dominant lead.

The Tarheels came alive in set two, leading 13-11 with a 5-0 run, but Heredia Colon secured two more kills to regain the lead. The rest of the set was back-and-forth for the lead, but with four consecutive points for the Hurricanes and 18 total kills, they took set two, 25-23.

Miami started on an 8-2 lead, but UNC climbed back to cut the deficit to 15-12. Logan Wiley secured two crucial kills in the set to maintain the lead. Following a long rally, Vergara came out with the kill for the 18-16 advantage and Rodriguez added another ace for the 25-21 win.

The Hurricanes will remain home to face NC State on Wednesday for their final regular season home match.
