Hurricanes Sweep Blue Devils on Senior Night
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 14 ranked University of Miami volleyball team (23-5, 13-4 ACC) swept the Duke Blue Devils (5-23, 2-15 ACC), 3-0, on Friday night at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes tallied 41 kills, 36 digs, five blocks and nine aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon became the all-time leader in kills in program history as she led the team with 20 kills, while redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez notched 31 assists and 10 digs.
Miami started on a 8-5 lead with early kills and a block from Logan Wiley. They maintained the lead with six kills from Heredia Colon until Duke came back to tie it at 17. Miami took set one, 25-20.
Set two started tight again, but Miami broke it open with a serving run from Heredia Colon, earning back-to-back aces to take an 8-5 lead. Duke closed the gap late, pulling even at 22-22, but Miami closed the door with a Heredia Colon kill and a Rodriguez ace to finish the frame, 25-22.
The Hurricanes completely took over in set three. Rodriguez and Danilovic sparked a 5-0 run that pushed the lead to 12-6. Miami maintained the lead throughout the set as Jazmin Vergara secured two late kills, along with many Duke errors. Miami took the final set, 25-14.
Miami will remain home to host No. 15 UNC on Sunday.
