VB Falls in Five Sets to No. 7 Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 14-ranked University of Miami volleyball team (22-5, 12-4 ACC) fell in five sets to the No. 7 Louisville Cardinals (22-4, 14-2 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Hurricanes tallied a season-high 76 kills, 57 digs and 11 blocks. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon once again brok the program record with 43 kills, along with nine digs, three aces and 47.5 points. Redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez had a career-high 63 assists and notched another double-double with 15 digs, with three aces and three blocks.
Miami got off on a 5-0 run for the 8-1 lead with four kills from Heredia Colon. Louisville came back, but the Hurricanes maintained the lead for the 18-13 lead following a kill from Amina N’Diaye. The Cardinals tied at 21-all before Logan Wiley earned a set-sealing block for the 25-22 win.
Set two was neck-and-neck with the Hurricanes leading 12-10 with Heredia Colon’s fifth kill of the set. Louisville then earned their first lead of the match, 15-14, before Miami went on a 3-0 run. The remainder of the set was back-and-forth as Rodriguez picked up another block and Wilson notched a kill for the 23-21 lead. As Miami was down on set point, Heredia Colon took three straight points for the win, 29-27.
Louisville started on a 12-8 lead in set three, until Miami tied it at 14-all with a huge block from Wilson after a long rally. Danilovic and N’Diaye then added in kills for the 20-all score, before the Cardinals earned the third set, 25-23.
The Cardinals then got off on an 8-2 start, but the Hurricanes climbed back to cut it to a 16-14 Louisville lead with four straight points topped off with a block from Rodriguez. Louisville then went on a 6-0 run to extend their advantage and even the match with a 25-19 set win.
The fifth set was led by Louisville, up 8-3. Miami inched forward to cut the lead 11-9 with a block from N’Diaye and another from Danilovic. The Cardinals sealed the set, 15-12.
Miami returns home to play Duke and North Carolina on Friday and Sunday at the Knight Sports Complex.
