VB Takes Back-to-Back Wins Over Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 14 ranked University of Miami volleyball team (21-4, 11-3) earned the five-set win over the Florida State Seminoles (13-10, 7-6), 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Tully Gymnasium.
The Hurricanes tallied 62 kills, 53 digs, nine blocks and five aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 32 kills while redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez earned a double-double with 48 assists and 10 digs.
The Seminoles opened on a 4-0 run until Miami came back to tie it with four early kills from Heredia Colon. FSU continued to hold the lead and the Hurricanes to a negative hitting percentage for the 25-17 set win.
Miami went up 13-11 with nine kills dispersed around the court to get things started. Wilson then registered a block to put the Hurricanes on a run to lead 17-12. The Hurricanes hit .429 as a team in the set to even the match with a dominant 25-15 set win.
Set three opened on a 7-1 run for Miami with three blocks and nine kills, five from Heredia Colon, until the Seminoles came back on their own 7-0 run to lead 16-15. FSU kept the lead and took the narrow set win, 25-23.
Miami answered immediately in the fourth, jumping out to a 10-4 lead with three aces from N’Diaye and Wilson’s presence at the net. The Hurricanes held FSU to .150 hitting percentage and took the set, 25-16, to force a fifth.
FSU led 8-4 to start the final set, but with back-to-back kills from Heredia Colon and Danilovic, the Hurricanes ended on an 11-2 run for the 15-10 win.
The Hurricanes will travel to Notre Dame and Louisville Nov. 14 and 16, respectively.
