Miami Secures Win Over Cavaliers

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (17-4, 7-3 ACC) defeated the Virginia Cavaliers (10-10, 3-7 ACC), 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes tallied 56 kills, 41 digs, eight aces and hit .348. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 25 kills, while redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez notched 35 assists and six kills.

Miami started off strong and held the lead throughout the set, finishing it off on a 6-0 run with two aces from N’Diaye to total five as a team and win it 25-15. UVA bounced back in set two with a 12-8 lead after a 5-0 run. The Cavaliers held the lead despite Heredia Colon tallying double-digit kills in the match for the 18-13 lead. Logan Wiley and Rodriguez contributed kills but dropped the set, 25-19.

The Hurricanes dominated in the third set, 25-11, with the team hitting over .500 and three more aces. Heredia Colon tallied eight more kills to push Miami over the edge. Virginia kept it tighter in the final set with their set-high 13 kills in the match, but Miami also earned their set-high 17 kills to grab the set, 25-20.

Miami will host Boston College and Syracuse on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2 at the Knight Sports Complex.
