
Miami Secures Eighth Sweep with Win Over NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team (13-1, 3-0 ACC) swept the NC State Wolfpack (7-6, 0-3 ACC) on Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum.
The Hurricanes tallied 40 kills, 38 digs and eight aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 17 kills, while tying senior Dalia Wilson with three blocks apiece. The win also matches the Hurricanes best start since 2008.
Freshman Mariam Mushkudiani opened the match with a kill and block for the 3-0 run to give the Hurricanes the 12-8 lead. Miami kept the momentum and claimed another 7-0 run after three NC State errors. With the team hitting .333, Miami took set one, 25-16.
NC State started strong, keeping it tight until Miami notched six consecutive points led by back-to-back aces from Amina N’Diaye and a block from Wilson and Ariana Rodriguez to go up 14-9. As the Hurricanes inched to a 22-17 lead, the Wolfpack came back to cut it to only 22-20. With 12 kills and four aces, Miami took the second set, 25-20.
Set three was tight from start to finish, as Miami led 15-13 following five straight points. The Hurricanes earned 18 kills with only four errors to push through the gap and take the final set, 25-22.
The Hurricanes will remain on the road for ACC play as they head to Wake Forest for a Sunday matchup.
