Miami Sweeps Georgia Tech to Open ACC Play

ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 24-ranked University of Miami volleyball team (11-1, 1-0 ACC) kicked off conference play with a sweep over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-5, 0-1 ACC), 3-0, on Friday night at the O’Keefe Gymnasium.

The Hurricanes tallied 43 kills, 31 digs, 11 blocks and seven aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 15 kills, senior Dalia Wilson had seven blocks along with 10 kills and redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied five aces and 30 assists.

Miami started strong in set one as Wilson tallied six kills and five blocks in the first set, alongside the Hurricanes’ eight blocks as a team to seal the hard-fought opening set, 26-24.

Set two was all Miami dominance as Ava Carney and Amina N’Diaye opened the set on a 6-1 run guided by Rodriguez. With help from Wilson and Feliciano’s defense and Heredia Colon’s six kills, the team notched 18 kills and hit .571 to extend their lead with a 25-14 set two win.

Rodriguez opened with three aces, while Carney and N’Diaye added kills for a 15-10 cushion. Georgia Tech started to climb back after being down 21-15 to make it 23-19, but with the Yellow Jackets hitting .154 in the set, the Hurricanes claimed the set, 25-20.

The Hurricanes will continue ACC play as they face Clemson on the road on Sunday.
