
Miami Sweeps FIU for 10th Consecutive Win
MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (10-1) concluded non-conference play with a sweep over the FIU Panthers (6-6) on Saturday afternoon at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Hurricanes tallied 39 kills, 52 digs, 11 blocks and eight aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 17 kills, graduate student Lilou Stegman had seven blocks and redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied five aces.
Miami shook off an early deficit with kills from Ava Carney and Dalia Wilson, adding on an ace from Heredia Colon. A strong block from Rodriguez and Lilou Stegeman helped the Hurricanes pull away to take the opening set, 25-19.
The second set featured long rallies and 12 ties. Carney, Wilson and Heredia Colon powered the offense while Feliciano held down the back row. With the score tied late, Rodriguez’s serving, and Miami’s blocking sealed a 29-27 thriller.
Miami controlled the third behind 12 kills from Heredia Colon, Carney and Wilson. Stegeman and Vergara chipped in blocks for the Hurricanes to consistently keep the lead for the 25-17 set win and match sweep.
The Hurricanes will begin ACC play as they head to Georgia Tech and Clemson on Sept. 26 and 28.
