Hurricanes Take Down FGCU, 3-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (9-1) secured their ninth straight win after a 3-1 victory against the FGCU Eagles (5-5) on Friday night in the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes tallied 44 kills, 42 digs, 14 blocks and 16 aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 21 kills, senior Dalia Wilson had eight blocks and redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied 37 assists.

Set one was tight from the beginning, as FGCU led the majority of the set and earned five blocks and 15 kills for the 25-19 win.

FGCU started with the same momentum going into set two, but after a 5-0 run for Miami with three straight points from Carney for the 15-8 lead. The Hurricanes maintained the lead following back-to-back blocks from Wilson for the 18-13 lead and won it 25-22.

Miami took the power into the third set, as Lilou Stegeman made her second appearance of the season with four blocks and two kills for the early lead. The rest of the squad totaled for a .455 hitting percentage to dominate set three, 25-15.

The fourth set was all Miami again, as they notched four aces to lead 17-12. Wilson then claimed back-to-back blocks to put the Hurricanes at a 21-14 advantage, ultimately taking the final set 25-16.

The Hurricanes will travel across town to face FIU at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday.
