Miami Secures Eighth Straight Win

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (8-1) took down the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (7-3), 3-1, on Thursday night in the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes tallied xx kills, 58 digs, 11 blocks and 10 aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 26 kills, senior Dalia Wilson had seven blocks and redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied 41 assists.

Miami started on a strong 12-3 lead, highlighted by two aces a piece from Heredia Colon and Rodriguez. The Hurricanes maintained the incline and tallied 14 kills and six aces, while holding the Chanticleers to a -0.214 hitting percentage for the 25-8 set win.

Coastal Carolina stepped it up in the second set, keeping it close with a 14-10 lead after a 6-1 run. The Hurricanes tried to climb back to a 21-17 deficit but fell 25-22.

Set three opened on another promising lead for Miami, starting on an 8-3 lead with two kills from Logan Wiley and two kills from Heredia Colon. The Chanticleers cut the lead to three, 16-13, but Miami only allowed three more points as they notched another 13 kills and four blocks for the 25-18 win.

The fourth set was close, as Miami went on a 6-0 run to lead 10-8 with kills and blocks all around over court. Coastal Carolina didn’t let the match get away, only down 20-17 but the Hurricanes continued to push as Ava Carney and Dalia Wilson notched a pair of kills to take the final set 25-18.

The Hurricanes will remain home to face FCGU on Friday at the Knight Sports Complex.
