Miami Goes Undefeated in 305 Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (4-1) swept the UCF Knights (3-1), 3-0, on Saturday night in the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes tallied 43 kills, 42 digs, 12 blocks and three aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 17 kills, senior Dalia Wilson had seven blocks, redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied 23 assists, and senior Naylani Feliciano notched 18 digs.

The opening set started tight as Miami led 15-14 after Heredia Colon’s third kill. The set traded points with 19 ties and eight lead changes, making it 19-all as Ava Carney notched back-to-back blocks. With 12 kills and five blocks for the team, Miami took the set 26-24.

Miami took more control in the second set, leading 12-9 after four kills from junior Ava Carney. The Hurricanes then had a six-point advantage, at 21-16 following back-to-back blocks from Wilson. UCF started to climb back, tying it at 21-all and earning the lead, 23-22, until Heredia Colon helped Miami to a 25-23 set two win.

The final set opened close until Miami started to pull away after four straight kills from Wilson, Rodriguez and Heredia Colon, 10-6. The Hurricanes maintained the lead until UCF cut the deficit and took the lead after a 5-0 run. With the set tied at 23, the Hurricanes pushed through and completed the sweep with a 27-25 set win.

The Hurricanes will host Ole Miss on Wednesday, Sept. 10, for the Showdown at the Net challenge with ACC-SEC matchups across the country.
