VB Earns Third Straight Sweep with Win Over UNT

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (3-1) shut out the UNT Mean Green (3-2), 3-0, on Friday night in the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes tallied 41 kills, 44 digs, eight blocks and 10 aces. Junior Ava Carney led the team with 11 kills, graduate student Lilou Stegeman had six blocks, redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied 30 assists, and senior Naylani Feliciano notched 14 digs.

North Texas started out in front with the 7-4 lead after a 4-0 run, but the Hurricanes climbed back after a kill by sophomore Logan Wiley and an ace from Feliciano. Miami then took the lead, 20-16, following a 7-1 run, led by senior Dalia Wilson’s three kills. The Hurricanes took the opening set, 25-18, after six aces.

Set two opened tight, as Miami led 12-9 after kills from newcomers Amina N’Diaye and Lilou Stegeman. The Hurricanes then earned five consecutive points with two North Texas errors and two kills around the court to go up 17-10. Carney notched five kills and an ace to lead Miami to a 25-14 set two win.

The Hurricanes opened the final set strong, as Stegeman notched three kills and three blocks consecutively to lead Miami 10-2. Multiple Canes saw action as the set went on, as freshman Billie Reiter notched an ace and assisted freshman Simone Baskin for the kill to lead 15-8. Vergara then earned back-to-back aces and a kill to put Miami on a 5-1 run, along with N’Diaye notching a kill and block assist.

The Hurricanes will be back in action Saturday as they travel to FIU and face UCF to close out the 305 Challenge.
