
Miami Sweeps Drake to Open 305 Challenge Weekend
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (2-1) swept the Drake Bulldogs (1-3), 3-0, on Thursday night in the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes tallied 38 kills, 46 digs, nine blocks and eight aces. Junior Ava Carney led the team with 14 kills, senior Dalia Wilson had seven blocks, redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez tallied 27 assists, and senior Naylani Feliciano notched 12 digs.
Carney got the momentum going for Miami as she picked up her fourth kill of the match to take the 8-4 lead. Graduate student Jazmin Vergara then picked up a big block to maintain the led. With kills around the court, freshman Amina N’Diaye notched her third kill to make it 18-13. Drake fought back with four consecutive points on Miami’s set point, but took the opening set, 25-23.
Set two opened with Vergara claiming a block and back-to-back kills. N’Diaye and sophomore Logan Wiley then registered a block for the three-point lead, 11-8. Miami went on a 5-0 run to lead 17-11 after two blocks and a kill from Wilson. The Hurricanes kept control and took the second set, 25-15.
Miami continued the streak going into set three as they went on a 4-0 run with kills from N’Diaye, Wilson and Rodriguez to go up 12-4. N’Diate then earned three aces for the 19-10 advantage for the Hurricanes. Wilson secured her seventh kill for the 25-17 set win.
The Hurricanes will be back in action Friday as they host North Texas for the 305 Challenge.
