Deysel Wins Javelin Title as Hurricanes Open Competition at ACC Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Miami track and field’s Devoux Deysel registered his second-consecutive ACC championship in the javelin with one of the world’s best throws this season to highlight day one of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted at Kentner Stadium.

Deysel dominated the competition as he won with a school-record throw of 82.35m, besting the next closest competitor by 14.60m. His throw ranks as the longest in the NCAA this season, 13th all-time in collegiate history and 15th in the world this year.

Erikka Hill earned a point for the women’s team in the hammer throw as she placed eighth with a season-best mark of 58.71m.

Sanaa Hebron won her heat to advance to the 400m hurdle finals with a time of 55.91, the second-fastest mark in prelims. The 400m hurdle final is set to take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Lance Ward advanced to Saturday’s 200m final after posting the fourth-fastest time in school history at 20.97. The men’s 200m finale is slated for 8 p.m.

The Hurricanes return to the track Friday for the women’s 100m hurdles set to begin at 6 p.m. The meet can be seen on ACC Network Extra while live results can be found here.
