Head Coach Aljosa Piric Earns 100th Win at UM
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis head coach Aljosa Piric earned his 100th win at Miami after a 4-3 victory over Penn on Thursday evening.
Miami (9-5) and Penn (10-7) started the match tight, with the doubles point coming down to the last court. Penn was first to secure court two from Parashar Bharadwaj and Manfredi Graziani with a 6-2 win against Sam Baumgartner and Nacho Serra Sanchez. Miami bounced back on court three, with Antonio Prat and Martin Katz defeating Matthew Rutter and Baylor Sai, 6-4.
The No. 46 pair of Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet took down No. 78 Alvin Tudorica and Erik Grevelius, 7-6 (3), at the top court to claim the advantage going into singles.
The Hurricanes opened singles action Prat taking down Vakili, 6-2, 6-4, on court two. Penn went on to tie the match at two-all. First, Bharadwaj claimed court six, 6-3, 6-0, over Baumgartner, followed by a win at the top court from Graziani, 6-4, 6-3, against Melnic.
Despite Katz regaining the lead for UM with a 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot over Sandler, the Quakers answered with a 7-6 (6), 6-0 victory over Burdet on court five.
With the match on the line, Serra Sanchez battled to a third set with Sai on court four. Following an intense battle, the sophomore aced Sai to win it, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Hurricanes will return to action on March 15 when they resume ACC play against Duke at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
