Miami Downs Boston College To Open ACC Play
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (8-3, 1-0) opened conference action with a 6-1 win over Boston College (4-5, 0-2) on Wednesday afternoon.
On court three, Martin Katz and Antonio Prat secured the first doubles win, 6-1, over Will Kasten and Bennett Turner. Boston College answered with a court-two win from Anesh Jayasundera and Caleb Saltz, 7-6, over Sam Baumgartner and Nacho Serra Sanchez. The Eagles then clinched the doubles point after No. 28 Juan Jose Bianchi and Jake Vassel took the top court over No. 27 Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet, 7-6.
Despite losing the doubles point, Miami swept Boston College in the singles portion. Serra Sanchez tied the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Mai Gao on court five. To take the lead, Katz defeated Juan Jose Bianchi, 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 2 spot. Then, Baumgartner extended the lead after a 6-3, 7-5 decision on court six over Matt Campbell.
Clinching the win, Prat secured court four over Will Kasten, 7-5, 6-3. As the match played out, Melnic was next to win his match after taking down Caleb Saltz, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, at the top court. Finishing out the sweep, Burdet battled three sets to take the 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win over Jake Vassel on court three.
The team will stay on the road to travel to Notre Dame on March 1 in South Bend, Ind.
