Hurricanes Sit Seventh at Spartan Sun Coast Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – After a rainy first round in Sarasota, Fla., the University of Miami golf team sits tied for seventh at 13-over-par (301) in the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, hosted by Michigan State at Palm Aire Country Club.

The day was cut short due to rain and the teams only played 18 holes instead of the planned 36.

Playing on the Champions Course at Palm Aire, the Hurricanes totaled a field-best 13 birdies in the first round, paced by freshman Aada Rissanen who sunk four on the day. Rissanen currently sits tied for 14th, shooting an 18-hole score of 74 (-2).

Fourth-year junior Sara Byrne leads the Hurricanes through 18, shooting her 14th round of par-or-better this season with an even-pr score of 72.

Freshman Barbora Bujáková shot a 75 (+3) in the first round of the tournament to sit tied for 20th, while sophomore Olivia Grønborg (+8) and freshman Rebekah Gardner (+9) sit tied for 62nd and 65th, respectively, after 18 holes.

Miami enters Monday’s round 10 strokes behind leader Ohio State (291; +3), but only four strokes out of third place.

The final round of the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Monday.
