Miami Drops 4-0 Match To No. 25 Vanderbilt
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 battle to No. 25 Vanderbilt in the consolation match of ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday night.
Vanderbilt started strong by taking the doubles point. On court two, Holly Staff and Sonya Macavei defeated Isabella Pfennig and Leonie Schuknecht, 6-1, while the No. 17 ranked duo of No. 17 Celia-Belle Mohr and Anessa Lee took down Alexa Noel and Xinyi Nong, 6-2, court one.
When play was halted, Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray were up 5-2 on Antonia Balzert and Audrey Boch-Collins on court three.
The Commodores didn’t stop in doubles, they went on to claim four singles courts. No. 24 Stammel secured the 6-1, 6-2 win over Balzert and No. 95 Staff defeated Nong, 6-3, 6-4, on court five.
Then, Vanderbilt’s No. 75 Ray claimed the 6-1, 7-5, 6-6 win over Schuknecht at the No. 4 spot.
No. 25 Noel was up 6-4, 4-3 on No. 14 Mohr at the top court, No. 90 Pfennig stopped at 5-7, 5-1 to Lee on court two and No. 81 Boch-Collins was up 7-5, 1-3 on Stevens on court six.
The Hurricanes will return to action on Feb. 2 to host Texas A&M.
