Transfer Ava Carney Joins Miami For 2024 Season
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head volleyball coach Jose “Keno” Gandara announced Friday the addition of transfer Ava Carney.
Carney comes to the U as a sophomore from Wake Forest University after a stellar freshman season.
An outside hitter from Butler, Pennsylvania, Carney was named to the ACC All-Freshman team after her lone season with the Demon Deacons. She was tabbed as the 15th individual in Wake Forest history to land a spot on the prestigious list.
The freshman played in all 29 matches while making 16 starts to rank second in kills (332) for the team. Carney also finished third in blocks (57.0) and registered 10 or more kills in 20 different games. She notched a season-best 19 kills and seven blocks against No. 11 Georgia Tech, while also going 15-of-25 in attacks for a .440 hitting percentage in Wake Forest’s match against Miami.
Carney will join the Canes for the 2024-25 campaign for her sophomore season.
Miami is coming off the program’s 12 overall NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance, seventh under Coach Gandara and third straight qualification. The Canes finished the season 18-12 overall and 10-8 in the ACC along with a pair of top-ranked victories.
