Leao Claims ACC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Janice Leao was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday afternoon.

From New Bedford, Mass., the graduate student earned five blocks, including one solo, while also claiming seven kills in 12 attempts for a .500 percentage. She is credited the set-two winning block to push Miami to a two-set lead.

With Leao’s help, Miami swept top-ranked Georgia Tech twice this season. The Canes were the only team this season to shutout the Yellow Jackets.

The weekly honor marks Leao’s first of the season and Miami’s 10th accolade of this year.

The Hurricanes will travel to Pitt on Wednesday, Nov. 22, and Boston College, Saturday, Nov. 25, to end the regular season.
