Miami VB Earns 3-0 Sweep Over Troy
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 win over Troy on Saturday afternoon.
Miami (3-1) closed its weekend in South Carolina by earning its second sweep of the season. Sophomore Flormarie Heredia Colon averaged a .667 attack percentage to tie the highest amount in program history.
Troy started with a 3-0 lead and maintained it until a kill from Heredia Colon and solo block from sophomore Cianna Tejada help put the Canes on top. With three back-to-back kills, graduate student Abby Casiano clinched a 15-10 lead. After snagging 12 kills, the Canes secured set one, 25-18.
Miami led the Trojans throughout set two, but Troy continued to fight and cut the deficit to 19-18. After continuous battling and 18 kills, the Canes took the 2-0 lead with a set-two victory, 25-23.
The Trojans took control of set three, leading 17-14 with 11 kills. Miami came from behind after a 6-0 scoring run to tie it at 19-all. Freshman Grace Lopez gave the Canes the lead, 22-21, after earning her 10th kill of the match. Miami claimed the 3-0 sweep after a Trojan attack error, winning set three 25-23.
The Canes will stay on the road and travel to Madison, Wis., to face No. 1 Wisconsin and Arizona on Sept. 7 and 8, respectively.
