CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head women’s tennis coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced Thursday the signing of both Xinyi Nong and Leonie Schuknecht.
Nong comes to The U as a sophomore from Iowa State University, while Schuknecht joins the Hurricanes as a senior from Louisiana Tech University.
“These two young ladies will add maturity and a love for the game,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We were looking for high-character individuals that understand the qualities necessary to be successful and also have the discipline to stick with the process. I think we’re moving in the right direction with these two incoming Canes.”
A 5-foot-9 right-hander from Wenshan, China, Nong earned First Team All-Big 12 status in doubles during her lone season with the Cyclones. She, alongside Ange Oby Kajuru, also claimed the Big 12 No. 2 position title, en route to finishing No. 77 nationally and seventh in the ITA Central Region.
Nong, who joined the team in the spring, went 17-3 in doubles play, including 7-1 in Big 12 competition to tie the school record for such victories.
