Hall Claims ACC Championship in Shot Put, Hurricanes Complete Day Two of ACC Championships
RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Miami track and field team completed day two of the ACC Outdoor Championships Friday at North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C.
Graduate student Hannah Hall left no doubt in the women’s shot put competition, claiming the gold medal with a final mark of 17.64m. With today’s performance, Hall has now claimed both the indoor and outdoor ACC shot put titles.
Edgar Campre recorded an impressive streak of performances on day two of the men’s decathlon. Campre finished the day with 7,398 points, earning the silver medal in the event and giving the men’s team eight points.
Campre’s total points puts him at number two in the Miami program record books, passing Andreas Christodoulou, who scored 7,334 points in 2016.
Junior Russell Robinson took home the silver medal in the men’s triple jump with a final mark of 16.60m, tallying eight points for the men’s team.
Ashley Moore and Marquasha Myers each earned medals and points for the women’s team in the triple jump.
Moore, with a final distance of 12.95m, claimed the bronze medal and six team points, while Myers placed fifth with a 12.63m jump, earning four points.
Sincere Rhea had an incredible outing in the men’s 110m, crossing the finish line in a time of 13.49 to advance to the finals. Not only did he earn a trip to the finals, but Rhea also set a new personal best and moved up to number two in the Miami record books.
Skyla Wilson also posted an impressive performance in the women’s 100m hurdles, punching her ticket to the finals with a time of 13.36 – a new personal best.
Moriah Oliveira ran a season-best of 52.24 in the women’s 400m dash, earning the first-place time in the prelims, while Kennedy Brace finished fourth with a time of 52.38.
Ayman Zahafi also advanced to the finals in the men’s 800m after posting a time of 1:48.61 in the prelims.
Erikka Hill in the women’s shot put earned the Hurricanes four points with a fifth-place finish after throwing a mark of 16.62m
After day two, the men’s team sits in sixth place with 32 points, while the women’s team is in fifth place with 26 points.
Because of the expectation of inclement weather in the area, the ACC Conference has decided to move each event up to two hours for the final day of competition.
“Due to the likelihood of increasing thunderstorms and lightning later in the evening on Saturday, the schedule for the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships’ final session at NC State’s Paul Derr Track has been changed. The first field events will begin on Saturday at noon – two hours earlier than originally scheduled – with running events now set to begin at noon,” the conference announced Friday night.
