Rowing Set for Season Opener at Stetson
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team returns to action for its first race of the 2023 spring season at Stetson on Saturday in DeLand, Fla.
“The athletes have been doing a great job making progress and pushing each other over winter training, and the last couple weeks have been very high quality,” head coach James Mulcahy said.
Miami is bringing a pair of varsity eight boats and varsity four boats to Stetson.
“They have straightforward race plans to execute this weekend – nothing flashy or complicated, just row and see how consistent they can be throughout each stage of the race.” “The coaching staff, our athletes, and I are really excited to see how they race!”
Saturday’s race begins on Lake Beresford at 9:30 AM with back-to-back varsity four races, with the varsity eight races following shortly after.
Miami’s team captains, senior Mimmi Balaam and sophomore Emma Tschetter have been waiting for this moment to be back on the water competing.
“The team is excited to be back racing and we feel really positive about where we are at this point in the season,” Balaam said.
“We are ready to show everyone on the racecourse how hard we have been working in practice,” Tschetter said.
