Trio of Canes Finish Top-25 in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. – After battling inclement weather over two days of action, the trio of Kristyna Frydlova, Franziska Sliper and Sara Byrne tallied top-25 finishes at the Valspar Augusta Invitational on Sunday.
Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the tournament was reduced to 36 holes due to high winds.
Miami’s trio of Frydlova, Sliper and Byrne all carded a two-round total of 152 (+8) to tie for 25th. The duo of Nataliya Guseva and Anna Backman tied 41st after each golfer fired an 11-over par score of 155.
As a team, the Hurricanes finished seventh with a 36-hole score of 606 (+30).
“Yesterday was a tougher day and we did not do much better today,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “We are hoping for a better second half of the season coming up.”
Fourth-ranked South Carolina and No. 25 Ole Miss each claimed a share of the team title with a score of 590 (+14). No. 14 Florida State shot a team score of 594 (+18), finishing third.
Following a week off, Miami will wrap up the regular season in Sunset, S.C., with the Clemson Invitational, Mar. 25-27.
