Guseva Wraps Up First Day at the NCAA Championship
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – University of Miami freshman golfer Nataliya Guseva wrapped up her first round at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship at 12-over-par.
Competing at the Par-72, 6,384-yard Grayhawk Golf Club, Guseva enters Saturday’s second round action tied for 128th, 15-strokes back on the current leader, No. 2 Rachel Heck of Stanford.
“Nat struggled, but found herself in the last seven holes. Freshman jitters I guess,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “She is ready for tomorrow. Going to try and make it a respectful showing. She will have many more attempts, it was just a bad day. I know she is disappointed, but I also know she has the making to be great. She just needs a little more trust and confidence in herself.”
Following a par on the par-4, 359-yard 10th hole, the ACC Freshman of the Year carded a quadruple bogey on the 11th hole before falling to 13-over-par through 11.
However, the Moscow native got back to form over the final seven holes, burying an eagle on the par-5, 474-yard seventh hole to finish 12-over, 84.
Guseva will return to the Scottsdale, Ariz., course Saturday at 10:25 a.m. ET.
