Canes Close Out Day 1 Of Lake Wheeler Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – Day one of the Lake Wheeler Invitational drew to a close on Friday, following morning heats and afternoon repechages.

Racing commenced early on Friday, beginning with the 1v8 boat who finished third in its race with a time of 6:39.650.

The 2v8 continued to dominate on the water, posting a second-place finish in its heat (6:55.323), while the 3v8 crossed the finish line in a time of 7:25.064 for a fourth-place showing.

Miami’s lone varsity four boat rounded out the morning racing finishing third int its heat, posting a time of 7:53.860.

Following a short break, racing restarted in the afternoon with a trio of repechages, offering the Canes a chance at qualifying for the Final 1 races on Saturday.

The varsity eight boats took advantage of the chance, with the 1v8 and the 2v8 both advancing to their respective Final 1 race with a pair of first-place finishes. The 1v8 (6:36.012) edged Wisconsin by 5.8 seconds, while the 2v8 (6:59.470) narrowly held of North Carolina, finishing 3.8 seconds ahead of the Tar Heels to advance to Saturday’s Final 1 races.

The 1v4 came in second in its repechage, recording a time of 8:07.809. The varsity four boat will race in the 1v4 Final 2 on Saturday.

The first race of the finals will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow. The schedule for Miami is as follows:

3v8 – Final 1 @ 9:30 a.m.

1v4 – Final 2 @ 10 a.m.

2v8 – Final 1 @ 11:15 a.m.

1v8 – Final 1 @ 11:45 a.m.
