Canes Sweep Cavaliers in Back-to-Back Matches
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami volleyball swept Virginia for the second-straight day on its home court to improve to 8-4 on the season.
After a scheduling change earlier in the week, the Canes scheduled its second match against the Cavaliers for a non-conference match.
Senior Elizaveta Lukianova led the Canes in kills (20) for the second match in a row, while sophomore Angela Grieve tallied 14 in Sunday’s 3-0 sweep. Miami totaled 45 total kills to Virginia’s 32.
Miami earned its 11th opening set win of the season with its strongest performance of the day, 25-14, holding the Cavaliers to a set-low .125 attack percentage. Lukianova recorded eight kills in the opening set, while Grieve added three and three service aces.
Lukianova and Grieve totaled 10 kills in the second, while redshirt freshman Taylor Burrell boasted three of her six in the second. Sophomore standout setter Savannah Vach registered 13 of her 37 assists to help Miami cruise to the comfortable 2-0 lead with a 25-19 set win.
Virginia wouldn’t give up easy in the third, tallying 13 kills and holding Miami to its lowest attack percentage at .159. The teams exchanged the lead seven times and were tied 13 times before the Canes took the final set, 29-27.
Miami travels to Durham, N.C., on March 19 and 20 to face the Duke Blue Devils and the Pittsburgh Panthers.
