Miami Dominates Virginia, 3-0
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami volleyball returned to the Knight Sports Complex for the first time in 2021 as if they never left, opening the weekend’s doubleheader against Virginia with a 3-0 sweep.
Seniors Elizaveta Lukianova (15) and Janet Kalaniuvalu (11) each recorded double-digit kills Saturday afternoon, while the Hurricanes defense shined in the triumph, limiting Virginia to a .051 hitting percentage. Miami improved to 7-4 on the season.
Miami collected its 10th opening set victory of 2020-21, cruising 25-17. As a team, the Hurricanes collected 14 kills in the first set, led by five from Lukianova and four by Kalaniuvalu.
More of the same in the second set, Miami took the commanding 2-0 advantage following a 25-15 set win. Hitting a game-high .476 in the second, Miami jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and never looked back. Defensively, the Hurricanes limited the Cavaliers to a .000 hitting percentage.
In the final set, Lukianova posted her best offensive performance of the day, collecting seven kills in the 25-15 win.
Sophomore setter Savannah Vach led the way for Miami, doubling Virginia’s entire team with 34 assists.
Miami and Virginia will return to the Knight Sports Complex Sunday at 3 p.m.
