Grimstad Garners ACC Golfer of the Month

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –After locking up her first collegiate tournament title and securing a top-30 finish, University of Miami senior Renate Grimstad was named ACC Golfer of the Month for February.

“For the ACC to recognize my first collegiate win and my scoring average so far means a lot. I have never gotten a recognition like this before, so I am honored to be a part of the select few who get it every year,” Grimstad said. “It also reflects well on our team and program, that we are able to get two of them within a year. [Sophomore] Anna [Backman] inspires and motivates me every day to get better and I’m so thankful to be on this team with her and the rest of the girls. I have worked hard for this the last three years, so I am thrilled to see that things are falling into place and that the ACC finds me worthy of this accomplishment. It definitely fuels the competitive side of me and motivates me to keep working hard and playing well.

“We have so much to look forward to this spring and I believe what happened this week at the Biltmore will be a wake-up call to us all,” Grimstad continued. “Sometimes we have to learn things the hard way and I know everyone will be seeking revenge next time we tee it up.”

Leading the conference with a -1.24 relative to par score through 17 rounds of competition, the Bergen, Norway, native is the second Hurricane in as many seasons to earn the honor, as Backman garnered the accolade in February of 2019.

Throughout the month of February Grimstad led the Hurricanes with a 70.88 scoring average, while maintaining her pace of attempting to lock up the program’s scoring average record, currently sitting at 70.59 on the year.

Opening the 2020 spring season in dominant fashion, the senior captured her first collegiate title at the UCF Challenge. She opened the three-day event with her current season-low round of six-under 66, before going five-under 67 in the second. Overall, Grimstad wrapped up the Orlando, Fla., event 14-under 202, while holding a seven stroke lead on the competition and achieving the second lowest 54-hole score in program history.

Battling a loaded tournament field in New Orleans, Grimstad finished tied for 30th at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, while helping the team place second.
