Golf Set to Compete at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami golf team heads to the Big Easy to open competition Sunday at the 2020 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championships, hosted by Tulane University. This year’s event will take place at the par-73, 6,336-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes over a three-day stretch with No. 32 Miami squaring off against a trio of top-25 teams, No. 10 Florida, No. 13 Michigan State and No. 23 Houston. In addition, the Hurricanes will tee off against Colorado State, Denver, Iowa, NC State, North Texas, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, Tulsa and UAB.
A quintet of Hurricanes, senior Renate Grimstad, junior Kristyna Frydlova, sophomore Anna Backman and freshmen Daniella Barrett and Franziska Sliper, will make the trip to New Orleans.
The Hurricanes enter the tournament securing top-five finishes in each of their past three tournaments, most recently locking up third at the UCF Challenge (Feb. 2-4). Individually, Miami was led by Grimstad’s dominating performance in Orlando, Fla., winning her first collegiate tournament by seven strokes.
Overall, the Bergen, Norway, native ranks 14th on golfstat.com, and currently leads the ACC with a -1.79 relative to par overall score. Joining Grimstad in the rankings, Frydlova ranks No. 69 among individuals and is in fourth among ACC competitors with a -0.50 relative to par score.
Last season, the Hurricanes finished ninth in New Orleans, with a score of 907 at the par-72, 6,239-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club. Backman (T22) and Grimstad (T29) led Miami with a pair of top-30 finishes.

Following a two week break, the Hurricanes will return to action March 2-3 when they host the Hurricane Invitational at the Biltmore Golf Course.
