SAAC teams with RISE to host MLK Luncheon

In recognition of Martin Luther King Day, Miami Athletics’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a luncheon entitled “Inclusion, Power and Privilege” at the Newman Alumni Center.

The luncheon, moderated by Dr. Andrew Mac Intosh from RISE, was held in an effort to continue the dialogue on diversity and promoting inclusive spaces within the UM athletics department for all.

“We are truly grateful to have hosted RISE today in a shared commitment to inclusiveness and diversity,” Director of Athletics Blake James said. “The program benefited our staff, coaches and student athletes and we are a better department because of our time together. I want to thank RISE for visiting and we look forward to a continued partnership.”

RISE is a national non-profit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations. For more information visit risetowin.org.

SAAC’s mission is to serve as a liaison between all student athletes and athletic administration, to better enhance the student overall experience and to unite the University of Miami athletic family.

Thank you to all who attended the event!
