CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head women’s tennis coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced Friday the team’s slate for the upcoming spring campaign.
The Hurricanes are guaranteed a minimum of 19 dual matches, 15 of which are against programs that finished the 2019 season in the ITA rankings, including at least nine in the top 25.
“Our schedule is strong,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We have some early tests and I’m looking forward to seeing our team compete.”
Miami begins the spring season Jan. 10-12 in Nassau, Bahamas, for the Pink Flamingo Invitational, which also features Florida, Texas and UCLA, which ended last season ranked No. 24, ninth and seventh, respectively.
Up next for the Hurricanes is another invitational, this one set for Jan. 18-20 on their home court. Miami will welcome Northwestern, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt—ranked No. 28, No. 32 and eighth to cap 2019—to Coral Gables for the Miami Spring Invite.
The Hurricanes begin dual match action in Tallahassee, Fla., for ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Miami opens play against last season’s No. 17 team, Texas A&M (Jan. 25, 2 p.m.), and then meets either No. 15 Florida State or No. 57 UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 26, TBD) in its second and final match of the weekend. The team that goes 2-0 will advance to ITA National Team Indoor Championship, held Feb. 7-10 in Chicago.
Miami plays back-to-back road matches at Vanderbilt (Feb. 13, TBD) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 14, 3 p.m.), teams that ended last season at eighth and No. 35, respectively. It then hosts a four-match homestand against Florida State (Feb. 17, 11 a.m.), Virginia Tech (Feb. 21, noon) and then a doubleheader with North Carolina (Feb. 23, 11 a.m.) and Florida Atlantic (Feb. 23, 5 p.m.). The Seminoles, as aforementioned, wrapped up 2019 ranked No. 15, while the Tar Heels placed third.
After a visit to Louisville (Feb. 28, 3 p.m.), Miami has another three-match homestand, this one against Yale (March 13, 10 a.m.), Syracuse (March 15, 10 a.m.) Oklahoma State (March 18, 11 a.m.), the latter two of which finished No. 30 and No. 12, respectively, last season.
Miami then heads to Notre Dame (March 20, 3:30 p.m.) and Virginia (March 22, 10:30 a.m.), schools that concluded last year’s campaign at No. 47 and No. 21, respectively.
The Hurricanes finish their regular season home slate against an NC State (March 27, 11 a.m.) team that ended at No. 11 last year and a Boston College (April 3, TBD) team that was No. 43.
Miami then hits the road again to square off with Clemson (April 5, 10:30 a.m.), Duke (April 10, 6 p.m.) and Wake Forest (April 12, noon). Those schools capped 2019 at No. 68, fourth and No. 23, respectively.
With the regular season complete, the Hurricanes will head to the ACC Championship, set for April 16-19 and, for the second time, will be held in Rome, Ga.
The opening rounds of the NCAA Team Championship will be May 1-2, with the third round May 8-9. All of that action will be at campus sites, before the final eight teams head to Stillwater, Okla., May 14-17 for the final dual matches of the season. The individual tournaments, also in Stillwater, then run from May 18-24.
