Canes Post Strong Showing in Season Opener
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team kicked off the fall portion of its 2019-20 slate on Saturday at the Head of the Indian Creek.
The Hurricanes had seven boats in the water for the annual regatta hosted by the Miami Beach Rowing Club. The Canes faced off with Barry University and Nova Southeastern in a 4,000-meter against the clock on the Indian Creek in Miami Beach, Fla.
Miami posted a strong showing in the Women’s Collegiate Champ 8+ event with the “A” and “B” boats claiming first and second place, respectively. The “A” boat finished with a time of 14:37.05, while the “B” boat came in just 42 hundredths of a second later. The Canes’ “C” boat finished fifth in the regatta with a time of 15:21.31.
Following the Champ 8+ event, Miami entered four boats in the Women’s Collegiate Champ 4+ race with two of the four boats earning a medal in the event. The Hurricanes’ “A” boat took home the silver with a time of 15:57.60), while the “C” boat came in third for the bronze at 16:13.71. The Miami “B” boat finished fifth (16:47.82) and the “D” boat came in seventh (17:27.24).
The Canes are back in action on November 17 for their final race of the fall when they head to Charlottesville, Va. for the Rivanna Romp Race.
