Rowing Opens Competition at ACC Championship

CLEMSON, S.C.– The University of Miami rowing team opened up competition at the 2019 ACC Rowing Championships Friday evening.

Five Hurricane boats raced in preliminaries on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina with two boats earning positions in grand finals. Finals are set for Saturday morning at 8:05 a.m. There is no charge for admission.
 
Miami’s Third Varsity 8+ was the first boat in the water, finishing fifth in Heat 1 with a time of 7:25.907 while racing against UNC, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia. The advance to the petite final beginning Saturday at 8:05 a.m.
 
The Hurricanes’ Second Varsity 4+ finished third in Heat 2 with a time of 7:31.331 while racing against Clemson Notre Dame and Duke. The Canes advanced to the grand final scheduled for 8:40 a.m.
 
Miami’s Varsity 4 also placed third in its heat and earned a spot in the grand final, posting a time of 7:28.830 while facing off against Boston College, Syracuse, Louisville and Virginia in Heat 1. The Varsity 4 is set to compete again at 9:05 a.m.
 
The Second Varsity 8+ placed fifth Heat 1 of its event with a time of 6:51.863. Miami competed against Boston College, Clemson, Notre Dame and Virginia and advanced to Saturday’s petite final at 9:20 a.m.
 
The Canes’ top boat finished fourth in Heat 2 of the Varsity Eight event against Clemson, Notre Dame and Virginia with a time of 6:36.872 and moved on to the petite final scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.

ACC Network Extra coverage is available the finals from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday. Jerry Massey will handle play-by-play and will be joined by analyst Steve Pritzker, a former rowing head coach at Iowa.
