Rowing Ready for UCF Scrimmage

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team is set for its final competition of the fall, scrimmaging at UCF this weekend.

The scrimmage against UCF is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. and will feature a 2600m time trial, run head race style, followed by three 2K side-by-side pieces at controlled rates for the varsity. Miami’s novices will also have three 2K side-by-side pieces at controlled rates, mixing between 6s and 8s.

“We have put a big emphasis on simple training this semester and the athletes have responded well,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “But of course we train to race, so everyone is looking forward to the competitive opportunity that only a race day can provide.   Our novice squad, the biggest in UM history, has been learning and improving every day.  For most of them, this will be there first rowing race and first race as a UM athlete.  They too are eager, and ready, to race!”

The spring session of racing begins with a two-day trip to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where Miami heads to the Cardinal Invitational on March 16-17. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
