Canes Fall to No. 8 Pitt, 3-0
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Miami volleyball team lost its first ACC match of the season to No. 8 Pitt, 3-0, on Friday night.
The Canes (6-4, 2-1 ACC) were bested by the 14-0 Panthers in the Fitzgerald Field House, 25-15, 25-8, 25-13.
Redshirt senior setter Haley Templeton recorded her 4,000th career assist on her 14th assist of the match. Templeton finished the match with 18 assists and now sits 933behind Jill Robinson, for the third-most assists in program history.
Outside hitters Chloe Brown and Elizaveta Lukianova both reached 100 kills this season during tonight’s road match. Brown finished with five kills and two digs while Lukianova finished with four kills and two blocks.
Miami held the Panthers, now 3-0 in conference play, to a .190 hitting percentage with just nine kills in the first set, but ultimately fell, 25-15.
Senior Kolby Bird led the Canes in kills with seven, just one shy of joining Brown and Lukianova with 100 kills after 10 matches. Freshman Maya Sullivan led the Canes with three blocks, totaling 20 on the season.
Pitt held Miami to just eight points in the second set and 13 in the third to win 25-8 and 25-13, respectively.
Miami will travel to Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday to face Virginia at noon. The Cavaliers fell to Florida State on Friday night and are now 4-9 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
