Four Canes Produce Season-High Numbers in 3-2 Loss

TRUJILLO ALTO, Puerto Rico – The University of Miami volleyball team forced its first five-set match of the 2018 season, but fell to Missouri, 3-2, Saturday night in its final match of the Puerto Rico Classic. 

 

The Canes’ (2-3) late rally in the fourth was bested by the (4-1) Tigers who improved to 2-0 in Puerto Rico with a 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 16-14 win at the Coliseo Ruben Zayas Montanez. 

 

Freshman Chloe Brown had another standout performance on offense finishing with a team-high 17 kills and recorded a season-high seven digs. Senior Kolby Bird also produced a season-high 13 kills against the Tigers and finished with four digs. 

 

The Canes cruised through the first set and took the 1-0 lead after a 25-20 set win. 

 

Junior middle blocker Bridget Wallenberger joined Brown and Bird and produced a season-high 11 kills, finishing the match with a .570 hitting percentage. Wallenberger also tallied four blocks on Saturday night and now has 22 on the season. 

 

The Tigers were able to take a 2-1 lead after winning set three by the biggest margin in tonight’s match, 25-19. 

 

Senior Haley Templeton was dominant on both offense and defense, recording 46 assists and a season-high 10 digs. The Preseason All-ACC honoree also picked up five blocks, including one solo block. 

 

Despite four Canes producing season-high nights and forcing a fifth set for the first time this season, Miami ultimately fell to Mizzou in the final set, 16-14. 

 

Miami will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday to face Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Sept. 7, at 5:30 p.m. (CT).  The Canes will conclude their second-straight road trip facing Texas Southern on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (CT) . 
 

All Hurricanes volleyball home matches are played at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on the University of Miami campus. Admission is free. 

 

The University of Miami – Coral Gables Campus has introduced an updated parking policy for the 2018-19 school year. Enforcement is now extended to seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. PayByPhone and additional pay stations are available across all campus parking lots and garages to facilitate visitor parking.
