Rowing Heads to ACC Championships at Clemson
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team will race against its fellow conference members at the ACC Rowing Championships Sunday.
Five Hurricane boats will compete on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina. Both heats and finals will be held on Sunday, with the heats beginning with the First Varsity Eight at 8:05 a.m. The finals start at 5:35 p.m., with the Second Varsity Four. There is no charge for admission.
“It’s hard to completely ignore the importance of the ACC championship,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. ‘We’ve been building for it all year, but in its simplest form, the ACC racing is no different than other racing. The race course is still 2000 meters over water and we want to see how fast we can race our shells in the various boat classes. It’s exactly what we practice on a daily basis. If our crews can keep improving to the last minute, stay in their own race bubble with no distractions, be disciplined with final preparations off the water, and race to their highest standards of team and personal excellence, then the racing will go well.”
Miami’s First Varsity Eight will kick off the racing out of Lane 3 in Heat 2 at 8:15 a.m., while the Second Varsity Eight will race out of Lane 1 in the first heat of its event at 8:30 a.m.
The Hurricanes’ First Varsity Four hits the water at 8:55 a.m., racing out of Lane 1 in Heat 1, while the Second Varsity Four races out of Lane 2 in Heat 1 at 9:30 a.m. Miami’s Third Varsity Eight will be the final boat racing in the morning sessions, running out of Lane 1 in Heat 1 at 9:45 a.m.
The top three boats in each heat will advance to the Grand Final in their respective events, while all other boats will move on to the Petite Final.
All the events of the Championship will be streamed live by ACC Network Extra and can be accessed through the Watch ESPN App. Pete Yanity and Steve Pritzger will provide the play-by-play and color analysis for the broadcast.
