Rowing Wraps up Longhorn Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Miami rowing team closed out the 2018 regular season Saturday at the Longhorn Invitational.
The Hurricanes had five boats compete against a talented field on Walter E Long Lake in Austin, Texas. Four teams in the field are currently ranked in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll: No. 3 Texas, No. 7 Iowa, No. 9 Virginia and No. 18 Oklahoma, while Oregon State is receiving votes.
“It was a challenging weekend of racing but as always there were lessons learned that can ultimately make the team faster,” Miami head rowing coach Dave Sanderson said. “ACCs is firmly in focus and the goal is to be relentless picking up more speed from now all the way through the championships.”
Miami’s Second Varsity Four was the first boat in action this weekend, finishing fourth in Heat 2 with a time of 8:01.376. The Canes’ First Varsity Eight also placed fourth in Heat 1 of its event, posting a time of 6:38.537.

Miami’s First Varsity Four crossed the finish line in 7:50.329 to place fourth in Heat 1 of 2 of its event.
The Canes’ Third Varsity Eight was the final boat set to race in Session 1, finishing fourth in Heat 2 with a time of 7:51.907.
The five Hurricane boats returned to the water for Session 2, beginning at noon ET, and the Second Varsity Four closed out its day with a third-place finish in the B final with a time of 8:19.964.
Miami’s Third Varsity Eight was fourth in the B final of its event with a time of 8:41.432, while the First Varsity Four was fourth in the B final with a time of 8:32.492.
The Second Varsity Eight crossed the finish line fourth in the B final of its event with a time of 7:23.544, while Miami’s First Varsity Eight was third in its B final with a time of 7:19.347.
The Hurricanes finished eighth as a team at the Longhorn Invite with 93 points. Miami’s 1V8 scored 48 points, while the 2V8 added 30 and the 1V4 chipped in with 15 points.
