Deem Announces 2018 Track & Field Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem announced the University of Miami’s 2018 track and field schedule.
The Hurricanes will compete at several prominent meets, including Florida Relays and the National Relay Championships. Miami will also take part in the Power 5 Trail Blazer Challenge, featuring five programs that are all led by female head coaches, and serve as the host for the 2017 ACC Outdoor Championships in May.
“The 2018 schedule is an extremely competitive schedule that will allow our team to compete against the nation’s best,” Deem said. “We are always excited to host three home meets, as well as hosting this year’s ACC Outdoor Championships.”
Miami’s indoor season will begin with a trip to Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 12, for the UAB Invite. The following week, the Canes will compete at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, (Jan. 19).
The Hurricanes will then be in action at the Power 5 Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. (Feb. 2-3) and at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson (Feb. 9-10) in preparation for the ACC Indoor Championships, which will also be at Clemson from Feb. 23-24. Two weeks later, the Canes will visit College Station, Texas, for the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Miami opens its outdoor season with the first of three home meets, hosting the Hurricane Invitational on March 16-17. The following month, Miami will also host the Hurricane Alumni Invitational (April 6-7) and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational (April 14).
The Canes will head to Los Angeles, Calif., on March 23-24 for the Power 5 Trail Blazer Challenge, a historical meet that will feature the only five Power 5 track and field programs in NCAA Division I that have a female head coach: Miami, Tennessee, Ohio State, Ole Miss and the host USC Trojans.
The Canes will then head to Gainesville, Fla. for the 79th Florida Relays on March 29-31. After hosting two meets, Miami will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the UVA Challenge. A week later, they will compete in the National Relays Championships (April 27-28) in Fayetteville, Ark.
Miami will host its fellow ACC members for the 2018 ACC Outdoor Championships from May 11-13. The Hurricanes will host the conference meet for the first time since 2009 and second time since joining the ACC in 2004-05 academic year.
Two weeks after ACCs, the Canes will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Fla., from May 24-26. The top Miami performers aim to advance to the NCAA Championships, held in Eugene, Ore., from June 6-9.
