Strantzali Honored as ACC Co-Player of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – As a result of her contribution to the Hurricanes’ 2-0 weekend, University of Miami senior outside hitter Olga Strantzali was named ACC Co-Player of the Week Monday, sharing the honor with NC State’s Kylie Pickrell.

Strantzali picked up two double-doubles over the weekend as the Canes swept the Wolfpack, who came into the weekend as conference leader, and defending ACC champion North Carolina. She tallied match-high performances with
20 kills Friday and 15 kills Sunday and complemented those performances with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, for her seventh and eight respective double-double in 2017. She topped off the weekend with four blocks, three service aces and two assists.

The senior leader hit impressively well in both matches and combined for a .500 attack percentage over the course of the weekend, which made for her most effective weekend of her season.

“I am happy that I helped my team win the last two matches and beat the No. 1 team in the ACC,” Strantzali said after her second weekly award of the year. “It was a very fun weekend and we finally played in the way we can play. Now we have a big week coming up and I hope we play the same way we played last weekend.”

With the wins, Miami improved to 14-4 on the season and 8-4 in ACC play. The Hurricanes’ winning percentage is .778, which is highest in the ACC.

Strantzali and Miami are back in action Wednesday night, when they welcome in-state rival Florida State at 6 p.m.
