CANES WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON WITH HOKIES

• Miami will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against Virginia Tech beginning Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Field (ACC Network Extra, 560 WQAM, WVUM 90.5 FM)

• The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Hokies by a commanding 28-8 margin, and won two of three games in the 2016 regular season series at English Field in Blacksburg, Va.

• Miami will next be traveling to Louisville, Ky., for the 2017 ACC Baseball Championship and begin play either May 23 or May 24.

• Junior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt (6-3, 2.28 ERA) will start the series opener Thursday night.

WEEK IN REVIEW: UM TOPS FGCU TUESDAY, 5-1
• Freshman righthander Evan McKendry had the best outing of his young career to lead Miami past FGCU, 5-1, Tuesday night at Mark Light Field to open a four-game homestand.

• Making the sixth start of his career, McKendry set a career high with 10 strikeouts in a career-long-tying seven innings Tuesday. He allowed just two hits and two walks across 102 pitches.

• Junior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt twirled a gem in the first game of a doubleheader at #10 Virginia on May 13, tossing the first complete game by a Cane since May 2015 to lead Miami to a 5-1 win.

• Bargfeldt allowed just three hits and one run, needing 107 pitches to get through the best start of his Hurricanes career.

• Miami took a 4-0 lead in Game 2 of the doubleheader, but allowed eight runs in a second inning that ultimately doomed them in a 13-6 loss to set up a rubber match.

• Trailing for most of the game Sunday, the Hurricanes tied the game 3-3 in the eighth but allowed four runs in the home half of the inning, and fell 7-4 to drop the series.

HEATING UP: RUIZ, CHESTER ON HIT STREAKS

• Senior Johnny Ruiz has been Miami’s top performer at the plate for the last two weeks and is riding a six-game hitting streak into Thursday’s series opener. Over that stretch, he is bating .474 (9-for-19) with two doubles, one home run, four RBI and a .643 on-base percentage.

• Junior Carl Chester, hitting leadoff for the last four games and for the first time since a late February series at Florida, has batted .412 (7-for-17) with six runs scored since being reinserted into the role on May 13. He is also riding a six-game hitting streak entering Thursday.

JEB! SHINING IN YEAR 1 AT MIAMI

• Junior Jeb Bargfeldt has been among Miami’s top performers this season in his first year as a Hurricane. He transferred to UM after spending 2015 at Wichita State and 2016 at Cisco College (TX).

• Bargfeldt has a team-best 2.28 ERA and has made 13 starts, all as a member of the weekend rotation. He is holding opponents to a .195 average, allowing just 19 earned runs in 75.0 innings.

• Bargfeldt has been particularly impressive in ACC play; he has compiled a 1.68 ERA and a 5-2 record in nine conference starts, surrendering just 10 earned runs in 53.2 innings.

• The Owasso, Okla., native, whose father is the head softball coach at Tulsa, has the fourth-lowest ERA in the ACC (2.28) and the second-lowest ERA in conference play (1.68).
