@HurricanesGolf Opens Play at the 2017 NCAA Regional on Monday
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 16-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team will take aim at a second consecutive NCAA championship appearance, as it opens play at the 2017 NCAA Regional Championship on Monday.
THE BASICS
-The tournament will follow a 54-hole format over three days.
-Miami begins round one competition at 10:26 a.m. EST on Monday.
-The regional tournament will take place in at The Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico on May 8-10.
-The Hurricanes are one of 18 programs that were selected to play at the Albuquerque regional – one of four regional sites.

THE WORD ON THE CANES
The Miami women’s golf team has been a model of consistency throughout the 2016-17 season, finishing in the top five in nine of its 10 tournaments this year. The Hurricanes are coming off their best finish in program history at the ACC championship, as they took thirdon April 15.
Miami enters the NCAA regional with a team average of 289.97 strokes per round.
The Hurricanes enter this year’s regional in the hopes of advancing to the NCAA championship for the 25th time in program history. Miami’s last appearance in the NCAA championship came last season in Eugene, Ore.
LAST TIME OUT
Miami’s third-place finish at the ACC championship was its best in program history. Miami concluded the tournament with a three-round total of 874.
The Hurricanes’ record-setting finish came following a final round score of 288. Miami’s final round score was the lowest among the 12-team tournament field, which allowed the Hurricanes to jump two spots and move past North Carolina and Clemson.

DEWI CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
Sophomore Dewi Weber enters the NCAA regional ranked No. 15 in the latest Golfstat.com individual poll. The Netherlands native is coming off her best finish at the 2017 ACC Championship and will look to build off of her strong 2016 postseason run where she finished in the top five at the regional (third) and national (tied for second) tournaments.
During the 2017 campaign, Weber has finished in the top 15 eight times. She also leads the team in scoring, averaging 71.32 strokes per round.
DELFINA DAZZLES AT ACC CHAMPIONSHIP
Senior Delfina Acosta made her final ACC Championship appearance one to remember, as she finished third.
Acosta’s performance marked her best career finish at the ACC Championship. Her final day score of 68 was the lowest round among the individual tournament field and capped a tournament that saw her post a season-best three-round total of 213.
The Argentina native posted six birdies on the final day. She began by carding birdies on four of the first six holes. She then finished the front nine four-under-par (32) and closed out the tournament by shooting even par on the back nine.
HURRICANE FRESHMEN MAKING AN IMPACT
Miami freshmen Macarena Aguilera, Renate Grimstad and Filippa Moork have made an immediate impact this season, propelling the Hurricanes to a top-20 ranking for the entire spring campaign.
During the 2016-17 season, the three Hurricane rookies have competed in 81 rounds, 28 events and have posted five top-10 finishes.
In addition, Miami’s freshman trio has posted an average score of 74.51, which ranks third among all NCAA Division I teams, according to Golfstat.com.
